While police wasn’t ready to disclose all details on the ground that it could hamper their further investigations in the case, sources admitted that a breakthrough is on the cards.
“Some of the persons involved in looting of the cash have been identified,” they said.
Special police teams constituted by SSP Jammu Chandan Kohli are conducting raids in different parts of Punjab and Jammu in search of accused and the persons behind them and to ascertain motive of the loot.
“Clues have been gathered during questioning of four persons detained earlier by the police and four others nabbed from Punjab during the raids earlier today. Raids in Punjab are being conducted by police teams with assistance of Punjab Police,” they said.
Jammu Police was sure right from the beginning that some gangsters from Punjab were involved in the loot carried out by armed gangsters in the house of Rakesh Aggarwal on Wednesday morning and their doubts have come out to be correct.
CCTV footage obtained by police has been helping a lot to police, they said.
At least two criminals detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA) in Jammu and lodged in jails have been questioned in connection with the cash loot, the sources said, adding different teams were working in different places to nab the culprits and completely work out the case.
“Breakthrough can be achieved anytime now,” the sources said.
It may be mentioned here that eight to 10 persons had stormed the house of Rakesh Aggarwal at Gandhi Nagar at 7 am on Wednesday, pushed the family members including Rakesh Aggarwal inside, held them at gunpoint and decamped with Rs 15 lakh cash. They stayed in the house for nearly four to five hours. Though they were equipped with weapons, they didn’t fire.
