Infiltration bid foiled, militant killed

Srinagar, Oct 29: A Police officer was shot and critically wounded by militants in Srinagar today.

Inspector Masroor Ahmad Wani was playing cricket with local boys at the Eidgah ground when he was shot by militants from point blank range. The injured officer was rushed to nearby SKIMS hospital.
Doctors were attending to him and his condition was stated to be critical.
“Terrorists fired upon and injured Inspector Masroor Ahmad near Eidgah, Srinagar. He was immediately shifted to hospital for treatment. Preliminary investigation revealed that a pistol was used in this terror crime. Area was cordoned off and a case registered,” police said.
Meanwhile, security has been beefed up as police and the CRPF have intensified checking in Srinagar and other towns of Kashmir following Sunday’s terrorist attack on a police officer.
The security forces have intensified the checking of vehicles and pedestrians in several parts of Srinagar city and other towns, especially in the south Kashmir district of Pulwama.
Mobile vehicle checkpoints have been established at all major intersections in Srinagar as well as at the city’s exit points.
The Resistance Front (TRF), believed to be a shadow outfit of the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Meanwhile, security forces today foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control in Jumagund area of Kupwara district and killed an intruder.
An official said that security forces foiled an infiltration bid at LoC in Jumagund sector of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district this morning. He said that they had information about the possible infiltration attempt in the sector and launched an operation.
He said that as a group of infiltrators were trying to sneak in, security forces challenged them leading to a gun battle during which one militant was killed. “The operation is currently underway,” he added.
