JAMMU, Apr 23: A Special Grade Constable of J&K Police was caught by Vigilance sleuths red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 10 thousand.
The cop, identified as Ibrar Wani, presently posted at Police Station Purmandal in Samba district, had demanded the bribe by threatening to implicate some villagers of Mandal area.
The complaint in this regard was lodged in Vigilance Organization Jammu by Ram Saroop of Mandal who alleged that on March 28, last month, an FIR was registered against some villagers of Mandal in Police Station Purmandal and Sgct Ibrar Wani demanded Rs 10,000 as illegal gratification by threatening that in case the amount was not paid to him, they would be implicated in the said FIR.
On this complaint, a trap team comprising of DySP Girdhari Lal, Inspector Hari Singh, Inspector Barkat Hussain, Inspector Deepak Jasrotia and two independent witnesses was constituted, which laid a trap under the supervision of R K Chalotra, SSP Vigilance Samba-Kathua.
The trap team arrested Sgct Ibrar Wani while accepting bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant in the presence of independent witnesses.
A case FIR number 20/2015 has been registered under relevant sections of law in Police Station Vigilance Organization, Jammu against the accused cop.
