Poonch blanks Kathua in Nehru Hockey

JAMMU, Aug 27: Poonch thrashed Kathua by four goals to nil (4-0) in Under-14 Boys Jawahar Lal Nehru Hockey Tournament, which commenced at KK Hakhu Stadium, here today.
Earlier, aided by superb back to back goals by Gurjot Singh in 6th and 14th minute of the match, Poonch got the early lead and increased the same by scoring goals in the 19th and 21st minute through Ishtiyaq and Arun. The players of both the districts played defensively in the second half and Poonch won the match by (4-0).
Meanwhile, in Under-17 boys, Jammu thrashed Rajouri by five goals to nil (5-0) in a one-sided contest. For Jammu, Inderjeet Singh and Ramandeep Singh scored 2 goals each, while Shivam scored the remaining goal.
The tournament is being held under the overall supervision of Ashok Kumar, Deputy Directorate Youth Services and Sports, Jammu.
The matches were officiated by Daljeet Singh, Kulbir Singh, Mandeep Singh and Gurmeet Singh.
Meanwhile, Inter-Zonal Tournament in the disciplines of Kho-kho, Kabaddi, Volleyball and Wrestling got underway at Government Higher Secondary School Domana, here, which was inaugurated by Tirath Ram, District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Jammu.
