POONCH, Oct 6: 29th Poonch District Table Tennis Championship got underway today in the Multipurpose Hall of Govt Degree College, here today.
The Championship, which is being organised by District Poonch Table Tennis Association under the banner of J&K Table Tennis Association, was declared open by Mohd Ajaz Bhat, Deputy Superintendent of Police (HQ) Poonch.
Over 50 players are participating in different age groups in this Championship.
Ajit Singh, President and Er Saleem Banday, Secretary of the Association welcomed the chief guest with a shawl as token of gratitude from the organisers.
Earlier, Er Banday in his inaugural speech highlighted the role and achievements of the Association.
The chief guest congratulated the members of the Association for promoting Table Tennis in this far flung district of the state with lack of infrastructure and coaching facilities.
Noted anchor Pardeep Khanna a conducted the proceedings of the inaugural function.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Ajit Singh, President of the Association, Kewal Krishan Kapoor, senior Advocate Sanjay Raina, Pardeep Khanna, Lekh Raj Datta, Kuljit Singh, Rajinder Singh, Narinder Singh, Jagjit Singh Nika, Aslam Mir, Mohd.Rafi, Mohd Arram, Ashok Kumar, Zulifqar Ali, Ashok Kumar and many sports lovers.
Today’s results:
Cadet Boys: Guraces drubbed Ashutosh by 11-3,11-4. Jatin defeated Umair by 11-9, 11-7. Waseem beat Raman by 11-4,11-5. Adnan got the better of Pehsan by 11-7,11-8.
In the semifinals, Adnan defeated Waseem by 11-8,11-9, while Guraces trounced Jatin by 11-8,11-7.
