KATHUA, May 23: Defeating their rivals convincingly in the first round, the districts of Poonch, Kishtwar and Doda advanced in the Divisional Level Inter-District Under-14 boys Cricket Tournament, which got underway at Sports Stadium, here today.
The 3-day tournament is being organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports.
Earlier, in the first match, Poonch defeated Jammu by 8 wickets in an easy contest. Batting first, Jammu scored 76 runs in 15 overs by losing 7 wickets. Sarthak Peshin was the top scorer with 39 runs off 45 balls, studded with 6 boundaries, while Musaif contributed unbeaten 9 runs off 9 balls to the total. Asif took 2 wickets, while Kumail, Mehmood and Rustam claimed one wicket each.
In reply, Poonch reached the target in 11.2 overs by losing 2 wickets, thus won the match comfortably by 8 wickets. Mohd Rehan (22) and Manik (15) were the main contributors. For Jammu, Abdul Samad and Satyabrat claimed one wicket each.
In another match, Kishtwar defeated Samba by 118 runs in a one-sided affair. Kishtwar scored 171 for the loss of 5 wickets, while Samba managed 53 for the loss of 8 wickets in the stipulated 15 overs. Akram played a brilliant innings of 64 runs for Kishtwar, while Sahil and Mosin claimed 4 and 3 wickets respectively.
In the third match of the day, Doda defeated Udhampur by 3 wickets in a low scoring game. Udhampur scored 66 runs while Doda chased the target in 14 overs by losing 7 wickets.
The matches were officiated by a panel of experts including Jai Pal Singh, Rajesh Sharma and others.
