JAMMU, Nov 23: Poonch Link Up Day was celebrated today with active participation from Army, Civil Administration and local populace to commemorate the historic ‘Link Up’ of 1948, and the sacrifices made by the soldiers, as also, locals during the siege of Poonch.
The day is celebrated every year on November 22 to recall the sacrifices of the men in uniform and locals of the area. The Event witnessed a rejuvenating atmosphere that commenced with remembering our fallen ‘Heroes’ at the ‘Ajote Memorial’ and ‘Naman Sthal’ on Nov 21 and 22.
Thereafter, an interaction was held with various civil dignitaries and Ex-Servicemen of Poonch district on issues of futuristic support by the Army towards meeting local aspirations.
In order to recognize the supreme sacrifice made by the people who were instrumental in achieving this feat, the families of the martyrs were felicitated on this momentous occasion.
Gas Stoves were distributed to ESM/ Veer Naris / Widows at their respective houses since ESM rally could not be held to avoid congregation as a precautionary measure towards COVID -19 pandemic. A total of 27 Ex-servicemen/ Veer Naris / Widows were felicitated on the occasion.
Army extended gratitude to all the officials and Ex-servicemen for their participation towards the ‘event’. All due COVID-19 precautions were adhered to during the celebration of this historic event.
