Power Reforms

Sir,
Refer news item ‘SERC warns punitive action against PDD for non compliance of directives’ DE Feb 24.
There is urgent need that the Power Development Department (PDD) takes several reformative steps to improve the electricity scenario in the State. With increasing consumption of electricity by the people, pressure  on power production has increased. To meet the widening consumption and generation gap, it is necessary that PDD embarks on a series of reforms. If the steps are not taken right now, it will lead to a worsening power situation in the city. There will be more black-outs, power cuts of long and short duration, followed by violent protests by people. As summer is approaching, the demand for electricity will increase. The Department will have to brace for the  situation. The PDD could do so only when checks power pilferage by people. The problem with PDD is that is only acts against those who are poor and who have no say in corridors of power. It easily turns a blind eye towards those who are powerful.
A policy which may not discriminate people on these grounds should be unveiled by the PDD. Only the  the department may succeed in its mission. Otherwise power pilferage might continue to plague the State in the future.
Yours etc..
