Power woes in J&K

Sir,
Refer article ‘Power woes in J&K’ DE July 11.
The writer has made an attempt to invoke the conscience of the people to conserve electricity and thus  solve the problem of electricity. Avoiding misuse can be understood but he wants us to live  in primitive world and desist from the use of ACs.He has very tactfully and understandably given a clean chit to the PDD, of which he himself has been a part. One wonders how many people would deposit mobile bills in time if there was not threat of disconnection after due date. Simple, if one cannot survive without a phone for one day how can he do without electricity , if at all the department is as efficient as Telecom companies. The fact of the matter is that the PDD authorities are themselves encouraging pilferage and no consumer worth his salt can indulge in thefts without the connivance of the field staff of PDD. The article clearly shows the helplessness of the PDD authorities and the lack of will to execute  and enforce.
Load revision which should be an annual exercise considering the increase in purchasing power of people and the dwindling price of ACs and other gadgets which have now become a necessity rather than a luxury. But the department is least concerned about these facts and is relying on the conscience of people which is so rare in to days world.

Sir,
An advertisement has appeared in D E on 20/5/2012 on “Voluntary Load Disclosure Scheme” (VLDS) asking consumer to declare to the PDD the total number of appliances, filled in their house holds. The requirement defies logic in case of consumers having e-meters installed in their establishments. Such consumers are paying  charges as per the meter  reading and consumption assessed by the Deptt. All the more a good percentage of appliances are seasonal i.e geyser/heaters are used in winters and coolers/air conditioner are for summers only. There cannot be generalization of usage. There arises no need for such an arbitrary action by the PDD, it should be withdrawn forthwith.
