POWERGRID Inter-Regional Chess Tourney gets underway

SK Sharma, General Manager I/C Projects POWERGRID, Northern Region-II inaugurating POWERGRID Inter-Regional Chess Tournament in Jammu.

JAMMU, July 17: A three day Inter-Regional POWERGRID Chess Tournament 2013 commenced at Hotel KC Residency, here today.
Eight teams from various regions of POWERGRID are participating in this tournament. The participating teams include Eastern Region-I(ER-I), Northern Region-I(NR-I) ,Southern Region-I (SR-I), Southern Region-II(SR-II), , Western Region-I(WR-I), Western Region-II(WR-II), POSOCO and hosts Northern Region-II(NR-II).
The tournament is being played in two categories Individual and Team. The players from these teams will clash with each other for Team and individual titles.
In total, 30 players are participating in the tournament.
The tournament is being conducted as per FIDE Swiss Rules with latest chess rules enforced.
Renowned chess player of Punjab and arbiter Vinod Sharma is the Chief Arbiter and SP Sharma will be the Arbiter of the tournament.
The tournament was inaugurated by SK Sharma, General Manager (I/C-Projects) POWERGRID , Northern Region-II in presence of senior officials of POWERGRID and other guests.
SK Sharma on this occasion impressed upon the players to play the game in true sportsmanship spirit and emphasized on the fact that such events are organized by POWERGRID not only to create a sense of competition among its employees but also to make them appreciate the culture and values of co-workers. He said that such events bring the employees closer and help them to build a team spirit which is a must for success of any organization.
