JAMMU, July 27: The first batch of students of M Sc in Environmental Sciences programme under the Regional Centre Jammu, completed their third semester practical examinations at the Learner Support Centre 12123, Govt College for Women, Parade Ground, Jammu.
IGNOU had launched the M Sc programme in Environment Sciences in January 2021 session. This programme was not activated under Regional Centre Jammu due to the non availability of support services in the region and students had to enroll themselves under Srinagar, Chandigarh or other Regional Centres in far away regions. Due to the concerted efforts of the management of Regional Centre Jammu and the cooperation of the management of Govt College for Women, Parade Ground Jammu, the programme was recently activated for the January 2023 session.
The Master of Science in Environmental Science (MSCENV) programme of IGNOU aims at generating skilled manpower to tackle the growing environmental and developmental problems and changes arising from the transition to a sustainable society. This programme gives an insight into the socio-economic causes and the characteristics of pollution and degradation of the natural environment, including the effects on human beings, the atmosphere, ecosystem and the other organisms.
“In the recently concluded January 2023 admission session, as many as 364 learners have enrolled themselves for this programme under the Regional Centre Jammu and we at the Regional Centre Jammu have received requests from more than 300 learners of other Regional Centres for change of their Regional Centre to Jammu. All these learners have been issued NOCs instantly and attached to the LSC 12123 under RC Jammu for support services,” said Regional Director Dr Sandeep Gupta.
The practical concluding ceremony was attended by the Regional Director Dr. Sandeep Gupta, Coordinator of the Learner Support Centre, Dr Abdul Majeeb and other staff members.
