JAMMU/ SRINAGAR, Oct 31:  Congress party leaders and activists today paid floral tributes to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi  on her 33rd death anniversary  and also to the towering leader of the country, Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel on his birth anniversary across the State today.
Kashmir unit of PCC organised a function under the leadership of state president, GA Mir at party office Srinagar, in which senior party functionaries, Legislators and prominent workers participated and paid floral tributes to late Indira Gandhi and recalled the selfless services rendered by the departed leader.
Congress also lauded the role of Indira Gandhi in Nation building, saying that the courage and the will power of Gandhi took the prestige of the nation to the new heights in every respect, as a result, India is one of the super powers of the world and it will continue to get strengthened  at international level due to the work done by Congress leadership.
Former PCC president Peerzada Mohd Syed, former minister Taj Mohi- Ud-Din also paid glowing tributes to former Prime Minister saying the leadership qualities, commitment and conviction of late  Gandhi will continue to inspire the generations ahead, leading them at the path of unity, harmony and brotherhood.

Those who addressed the gathering included MLA Haji Abdul Rashid Dar, MLC  Gulam Nabi Monga, MLA Usman Majeed, MLA Gulzar Ahmad Wani, Mohd Muzaffar Parray, Mohd Anwar Bhat, spokesperson Farooq Andrabi,  Shoiab Nabi Lone, Surinder Singh Channi, Shameema Iqbal, Amreen Badre, PYC chief Pranav Shagotra,  Shameema Raina and  GN Mir Lasjan.
A grand function in this connection was held at India Chowk, Jammu  where Congress leaders and other functionaries paid rich tributes to the former Prime Minister,  Indira Gandhi. It was chaired by  Anil Chopra president District Congress Committee Jammu Urban.
Senior vice president JKPCC and former Minister  Sham Lal Sharma, vice president Raman Bhalla along with senior functionaries of PCC, DCC and other senior leaders of the party including frontal organizations garlanded the statue of  Indira Gandhi and offered floral tributes to her on the occasion.
Rich tributes were also paid to Sardar Patel, one of the greatest stalwarts of the country, on his birth anniversary today. His services in the freedom struggle and in the strengthening and consolidation of the country after independence were recalled.
Sham Lal Sharma, while paying floral tributes to Indira Gandhi remembered her supreme sacrifice for the unity and integrity of the nation. He said that  Gandhi created history by providing an able and dynamic leadership to the country and was acknowledged a strong and visionary leader in the world.
He recalled her historical contributions in the form of Shimla agreement, which binds Pakistan to settle all outstanding issues with India including Kashmir through bilateral means, strengthening of Non Aliened Movement (NAM) in the World,  besides librating Bangladesh for which her leadership was commended by  Atal Behari Vajpayee who compared her to Goddess Durga.
Raman Bhalla while paying rich tributes to late Gandhi recalled her supreme sacrifice for the unity and integrity of the country and said that she enhanced the image of India in the community of nations by her farsighted stewardship and India emerged as a strong nation under her leadership. He also laid stress on strengthening the principles for which Congress party and Indira Gandhi always stood for and laid down her life.
He said that  Indira Gandhi had a special affection for Jammu and Kashmir like her father Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru and it was the reason that people of this State has  special respect in her leadership. She was truly the leader of the all sections of plural Indian society and stood by her principles and laid down her life for the same.
On this occasion senior leaders  RS Chib, Kanta Bhan, Manjeet Singh, MLCs Balbir Singh & Naresh Gupta, Yogesh Sawhney, Dr Manohar Lal Sharma, Vikram Malhotra, Th. Manmohan Singh,   Indu Pawar   (President Mahila Congress), Shiv Dev Singh, Gharu Ram Bhagat and Satish Sharma, highlighted the achievements of  Indira Gandhi and described her as an iron lady, an able administrator and great visionary leader.
Prominent among others present on the occasion included, Kuldeep Raj Verma,    Gurdarshan Singh,  Krishan Lal Gupta, Maheshwar Singh,  Shashi Sharma, Thomas Khokher,  Sobha Singh,  Manjit Singh Jatt, Nadeem Sharief Naiz,  Sukh Dev Singh, Hari Singh Chib, Geeta Devi, Shakeel Shah, BB Gupta, ML Malagar, Dr RK Khajuria, Mian Nazir Ahmed, Lalita Sharma, Jai Singh, Chanchal Dogra,  Prabha Salathia, Menakshi Arora, Deepak Kumar and others.
Congress Seva Dal,  led by State chief  organizer Balvinder Singh Sambyal also organised function at Ramgarh in Samba and paid floral tributes to late Indira Gandhi.
Similar functions were also held at Udhampur, Kathua, Reasi, Ramban, Doda, Rajouri, Poonch and other parts of the State.
