Praveen becomes World Champion as India wins 3rd place in Wushu

JAMMU, Oct 23: Indian Wushu team remained overall 3rd in the Sanda event of the Wushu World Championship, bagging 1 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medals.
Iran and China shared 1st and 2nd places respectively.
Praveen Kumar became the World Champion in 48kg by defeating his rival from Philippines in the final bout.
He became the first World Champion in men’s category.
Earlier, Pooja Kadian became the World Champion in 2017 World Championship.
Arjun Awardee Y Sanathoi Devi secured silver medal while losing to China in final. Poonam also secured silver medal while losing to Iran in the final.
Vikrant Baliyan won bronze medal in 60kg while losing to Korean counterpart. 3 players lost quarter final bouts.
President Wushu Association of India, Bhupender Singh Bajwa congratulated the players and their coaches J&K’s Kuldeep Handoo (National Chief Coach) and Rajesh Kumar.
