RAJOURI, July 6: A prisoner was died under mysterious circumstances in Dangri District Jail here last night.
Official sources said that 52-year-old, Mohd Latief, son of Faqir Mohammed, resident of Ujjan village in Darhal, was facing murder charges and was lodged in District Jail, at Dangri near Rajouri. Latief, was found dead in his cell under mysterious circumstances this morning and his dead body was shifted to District Hospital by SHO Police Station Rajouri, after Jail authorities informed police.
The police said that over a land dispute at the village, Latief had murdered his relative on January 13 this year and was evading arrest for one month. He, however, was later arrested after one month of search by police.
The Jail authorities claimed that he was ailing for the past some time and apparently died of heart attack. The police said that after mortem the dead body was handed over to the family this afternoon. Investigation has been started and the exact reason of death will be ascertained only after receiving FSL report, the police said.
