JAMMU, Jan 1: J&K Prisons Department today released its New Year calendar.
The calendar was released formally by SK Mishra, Director General of Police (DGP), Prisons J&K, in a simple but impressive ceremony held here at Prison Headquarters, Amphalla. Besides the calendar, diaries and news letter were also released and distributed.
Speaking on the occasion, Mishra highlighted various achievements of the Prisons Department during 2017. He informed that a new District Jail called as Special Jail (Correctional Home) Pulwama got operational on September 9, 2017 wherein young offenders are lodged as a target group for special programmes of correction. He further disclosed that new jail buildings at Bhaderwah and Kargil are under construction and will completed within a short span of time.
The DGP further revealed that security has been strengthened in all jails with the introduction and supply of modern security gadgets like X-ray baggage scanners, DFMDs, Walkie-Talkie and up gradation of CCTV surveillance system.
“Skill Development Centres for imparting training to jail inmates at Central Jail Srinagar and District Jail Kishtwar have been started in collaboration with the NGOs. Besides, Art of Living (an NGO) has set up a computer lab in Central Jail Srinagar and started three months short term course on house wiring for inmates there”, he said, adding, opening of a beauty salon at District Jail Jammu for imparting training to the female inmates by the Women Polytechnic College Jammu has been a remarkable achievement of the year.
He said that another achievement of the department is making functional a Prison Training Institute named as Institute of Correctional Services at Mishriwalla Jammu.
The officers present on the occasion included Javid Masood Fazili, Senior Superintendent, Central Jail, Kot Bhalwal, Jammu, Dinesh Sharma, Senior Superintendent, District Jail, Jammu, Hilal Ahmad Rather, Superintendent, Central Jail Srinagar, besides officers of Prisons Headquarters.
