LUCKNOW: With latest NCRB report of 2017 revealing that Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of crime against women, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday slammed the Yogi Adityanath government in the state for its laxity.
“The state is at the top in crime against women, it is shameful and the Chief Minister must do something about it,” she said while talking to media in Lucknow on way to Rae Bareli here.
Ms Vadra is in Rae Bareli for next three days to participate in a training programme of the newly appointed office-bearers of the state party.
Earlier in a couple of tweets, Ms Vadra said the people should feel ashamed as they went out of the state to publicise ‘Beti Bachao Abhiyan’.
She wrote, “UP recorded the highest crime against women. There are 56,000 incidents of crime against women in UP in just one year and there are thousand more which are not reported.”
Mr Vadra also posted the official figure of the NCRB in her post.
Mr Vadra, on the birth anniversary of freedom fighter Ashfaqullah Khan, also tried to give a message of communal harmony in a tweet on Tuesday morning.
Both- Ashfaqulla Khan and Ram Prasad Bismil- inspite of being from different religions gave the message of brotherhood and unity.
In a tweet, the AICC general secretary wrote, “You must have heard the story of Ashfaqullah Khan and Ram Prasad Bismil, today it is apt to talk about their story. Ashfaq and Bismil belonged to Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh. Both belonged to different religion and very well understood the diversities in their cultures. Still they sacrificed their lives for the nation and taught a lesson of humanity. I salute to the both the freedom fighter and the unity of Ashfaq and Bismil.”
