JAMMU, Feb 6: Prof Rattan Lal Hangloo, Vice Chancellor Kalyani University, Kolkatta (West Bengal) today stressed the Kashmiri Pandit community to work for building institutions instead of dedicating their time in setting up ashrams only.
Speaking at felicitation function organized in his honour by Samajik Vikas Sansthan (SVS) at K P Sabha here this evening, Dr Hangloo said India is built by institutions only and only institutions can make India great. He stressed the displaced community to explore the possibilities of setting up a Medical College, Engineering College and other professional institutions.
Earlier, Dr Hangloo, who is an institution in himself was felicitated by Kuldeep Khoda, Chief Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) of the State who was the chief on the occasion on behalf of SVS.
While commenting on the felicitation, Dr Hangloo said it is much more precious and special for him to be felicitated by his community and people of his home State than the awards and felicitations received by him in India and abroad.
While referring his long journey from his native village Hangalgund in South Kashmir district of Anantnag as a school student to VC of prestigious Kalyani University he said “success is not success unless we endeavor it and it always comes with desire”
He appealed the KP organizations to felicitate all such community members who make it feel proud while citing the example of Neel Kashkari, a Kashmiri Pandit who is tipped to be Governor of California.
He assured all help to the students from J&K desirous to undergo higher education at Kalyani University.
In his address, Kuldeep Khoda also stressed that KP organizations should come forward in felicitating and honouring those people who have done a remarkable job and made the community as well as State to feel proud of them. While lauding the role of SVS in this regard he expressed the hope that the trend set by it will be carried forward in future and other KP organizations will also follow suit.
He said Prof Hangloo reached to the highest academic position with his dedication and honesty. The community has to go ahead collectively as it passed through a crucial phase he said, adding that youth were doing a remarkable job as they have attained good positions in various parts of country and abroad.
He said “the youth has a great ability but it needs recognition and if we recognize those people who have done a remarkable job in any field they become icons for the youth.
Sabha president K K Khosa, Prof P N Trisal and B L Saraf (Retd Session Judge) who were the guests of honour said that a good trend has started in community by recognizing the talent and achievements of its members which was missing in past.
SVS general secretary, M K Pandita gave the welcome address while its president Kuldeep Raina proposed the vote of thanks and announced that his organization will in future also organize such functions to recognize the talent and contribution of community members who have done a remarkable job.
