JAMMU, Mar 3: Prof  Rekha Chowdhary  has dissociated herself  from the Swami Vivekananda Chair in Central University of Jammu as the mandate for the Chair was not area of  her research.
“Since the mandate for the Chair is philosophy, teachings and life of Swami Vivekananda, I do not think that I will be able to do justice to this research area,” she said in her formal request letter, dated February 29, 2016, to the CUJ Vice-Chancellor for disassociation from the university.
This letter was in response to the Vice-Chancellor’s mail, wherein he had sent her the information about the mandate of the Swami Vivekananda Chair.
Earlier, the Registrar CUJ, vide his letter number CUJ/SVC/RE-RC/2016/001, dated 2-2-2016, issued to Prof Rekha Chowdhary,  stated that   she would be expected to undertake research studies on ‘Governance and ethics’ and it would be appreciated if contribution of Swami Vivekananda  is also highlighted.
“However, as per the information provided by you (VC CUJ), the research focus of Vivekananda Chair has to be his philosophy, teachings and life. Since there is no mention of ‘Governance and ethics’, I presume that this area is not focus of the Chair,” Prof Rekha Chowdhary explained and added that she had accepted the responsibility of the Chair with the impression that she would be mainly focusing on Governance and ethics, which was her area of research, and for that reason, she had even sent a detailed work plan for the year to the Registrar.
