Protest against bride burning, police inaction

KATHUA, July 23:  The people from border village of Jandial (bordering Punjab) including ‘Panchayat members and victim’s family, staged protest demonstration and dharna outside SSP’s office here today.
They were protesting against the alleged burning of bride by in-laws’ at Nagri Parole and inaction by the concerned police. They alleged that on June 12, Rama Devi was allegedly burnt by husband and other members of her in-laws family. She was admitted to GMC Jammu and died after 28 days.
The parents and relatives of the girl alleged that police was shielding the accused persons and no action has been taken in this connection. Today, the parents, relatives and villagers from Jandial came to the office of SSP Office Kathua and held demonstration. They also blocked the main road and disrupted movement of traffic for about one and half hour.
Later, they met the SSP Kathua and demanded action against the accused party. On the assurance of senior police officers, the people lifted dharna and allowed movement of traffic.
