POONCH, Sept 30: People from Mandi area of Poonch today held strong protest against GREF authorities for initiating sub-standard black topping work on Saujian-Mandi-Bedar road.
Reports said the people from Bedar area came out on the road and started protest demonstration against the GREF authorities for the alleged sub-standard road work. The villager pointed out that BRO (GREF) agency has started black topping work on the road. The quality of work is so poor and that within 2-3 days, the new road surface ( black-top) has started getting damaged. The new surface has broken at many places. They said the layer is very thin and quality of coal tar seemed to be of low quality.
Then they took up the matter with the Tehsildar Mandi and DC Poonch demanding inquiry into the matter. The DC Poonch assured the people to take up the matter with the Chief Engineer concerned (BRO) at Jammu. Meanwhile, the agency stopped work and lifted its machinery from the village sensing trouble.
