RAMBAN, Dec 30: A protest demonstration was staged here today by social activists of Ramban, Doda and Kishtwar districts including BJP workers at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Tunnel/Chenani-Nashri Tunnel in Nashri.
Many BJP workers led by social activist Swarnveer Singh Jaral of Doda assembled at Nashri Toll Plaza and raised slogans against doubling of the Toll Tax at Toll Plaza in Nashri.
The Toll Tax has been hiked from Rs. 80 to Rs.160 which the stakeholders term as unfair to local people and lacks transparency. Click here to watch video
The protesters also submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ramban, Basheer-Ul-Haq Chaudhary demanding revocation of Toll Tax hike especially for the residents of Ramban, Doda and Kishtwar districts as they use the NH-44 only up to Nashri to change the track from Nashri.
They feared that this hike in Toll Tax may compel the drivers of private and public vehicles to use the old NH-44 alignment via Patnitop which would not only be troublesome and time-consuming for them but may also incur losses to NHAI.
DC Ramban said that the concern of the people has been brought into the notice of the concerned authorities.
