JAMMU, Aug 20: The sudden death of a pregnant lady along with her unborn baby at Government Hospital, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, today evoked strong protest demonstration by the family members of the victim, who accused the doctors for negligence in handling the case.
According to the reports, a pregnant woman identified as Narinder Kour (35) wife of Ravinder Singh of Bhour Camp, Ward No 2, at about 2 pm this afternoon came to Gandhi Nagar Hospital for delivery, where she died due to the alleged negligence of doctors.
This led to protest by the family members and relatives of the victim, who accused the doctors of negligence in handling the case. The family members raised slogans against the concerned doctors, Hospital administration and created ruckus.
A team of Police Station Gandhi Nagar led by SHO, Manzoor Ahmed Kohli, also visited the spot and tried to pacify the protesting family members. He said the matter was resolved by the Hospital administration and family members of the victims through discussion. However, the attendants of the victim neither lodged a verbal complaint nor formal with the police, he added.
When contacted, Medical Superintendent (MS), Gandhi Nagar Hospital, Mohd Younis, said as soon as the victim reached the Hospital, she was first observed in Casuality of the Hospital by the doctors and then sent to Gynaecologist Section, where while observing by the doctors she collapsed suddenly within 5-10 minutes. Till then, the doctors had observed that the baby of the pregnant woman had already died in the womb.
He said immediately after the incident, he informed Director Health, Dr Pathania about the incident, who immediately sent a 3- member team of doctors including Dr Gurjeet and Dr Ajay to probe the incident, who found that there was no negligence on part of concerned doctors and the lady collapsed due to high Blood Pressure, which was measured by the concerned doctors as 180-120.
The family members of the victim suspended their protest when doctors apprised them about the real reason of the death (i.e. high BP).
