JAMMU, Feb 8: Indefinite protests and dharnas continued at Budhal, Jandrah , Dharamsal and Bhawani in Nowshera in support of public demand to provide tehsil status to these areas.
In Budhal town where fast unto death strike entered 6th consecutive day today, Dy Commissioner Hemant Sharma and SP Rajouri Mubassar Latiffi paid visit to convince the people to lift dharna. The public refused to suspend agitation and asserted that they will prefer to die rather than suspending agitation. Bandh continued in the town and the vehicles are also not plying. The office work has also been hit with the on going agitation.
The people from Bhawani also held strong protest demonstration and then they moved to Nowshera town. They held strong protest and raised barricades on Jammu-Poonch highway at Tain bridge. The vehicular traffic was disrupted for more than an hour with their agitation. They were raising slogans against local MLA R S Sharma, MLC Ravinder Sharma, MP Madan Lal, Dy CM Tara Chand and the Chief Minister.
Several Sarpanchs of the area were leading the protest. They claimed that Bhawani which has 15 Panchayats deserved Tehsil status but according the same status to Qila Darhal and Ladoka in Lam area is surprising. They criticized the CSC for its bias attitude and alleged that it was most unfair decision. Later, SDM Nowshera Deepti Uppal reached the spot and she talked to the agitating people. She assured to take up their issue at the higher level.
The agitating public then lifted dharna and allowed movement of traffic.
Another report said that protest dharna and chain hunger strike at Dharamsal in Kalakote continued and the people have decided to intensify agitation if the Government failed to provide Tehsil status.
At Jandrah in Jammu district, where the people are on indefinite dharna for the last five days, had to face the police action when some agitating villagers blocked road and started protest demonstration. About 30 villagers also courted arrest at Jajjar Kotli demanding Sub Division status for Jandrah. A few people, also received injuries when police resorted to mild cane- charge while clearing road Domail-Kishanpur- Manwal road.
The agitators have framed Jandrah Sub Division Action Committee. Sarpanchs and Panchs from seven Panchayats have joined hands to launch idefinite agitation. Complete shut down is being observed at Jandrah, Kodga, Kishanpur, Kanyala and Kah Pota areas in support of ongoing protest.
