Protest rocks GMC over negligence death

JAMMU, Nov 5: People today held a protest demonstration at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), after a women died, due to alleged negligence by the doctors.
The woman identified as Toshi Devi of Subash Nagar had allegedly consumed some poisonous substance at her residence on October 29.
Noticing her unconscious, family members shifted her to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for treatment.
As per family sources, she was responding to the treatment, but last night her condition suddenly deteriorated and she failed to respond to the treatment and breathed her last.
Raising slogans against health authorities and management of hospital, the relatives and the people held protest outside mortuary of the GMC Hospital.
They alleged that there is no proper facility in the hospital and no senior staff is available in the hospital. Junior doctors and the medical students were diagnosing the patients in this big hospital, they added.
Later police officials rushed to the spot and pacified the protestors assuring them to take the matter with concerned higher authorities.
It is to mention that, in the month of September, an accident victim Balwant Singh succumbed to his injuries and the family members alleged that Balwant died due to the alleged negligence of the Doctors, but till date the Hospital administration failed to ascertain the exact reason of his death.
