Protest in SMGS Hospital against mishandled delivery

JAMMU, May 31: The parents of a newly born baby and their relatives today held a protest here at Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh (SMGS) Hospital, Jammu against mishandled delivery at Government Hospital Sarwal.
According to the reports, Ruksana Bibi wife of Gulam Rasool, resident of Nagrota, gave birth to a female baby at Government Hospital Sarwal on April 29 after normal delivery where while doing delivery, the both legs and the left elbow of the newly born baby got fractured but the concerned doctor did not informed the parents about the matter and without informing them referred the baby to SMGS Hospital.
Today, the irate parents of the baby and their relatives hold a protest at SMGS Hospital, where the baby has been admitted for treatment, and raised slogans against the health department and their doctors demanding action against the doctor, who did the delivery of the woman.
They alleged that doctors at Sarwal hospital did not properly handled the case due to which both legs and left elbow of the newly born baby got fractured. They further alleged that without informing the parents about fractures, the doctors there referred the baby to SMGS hospital, Jammu.
However, after the assurance of the SMGS administration and Health department officials the protesting people pacified.
When contacted Director, Health Services, Jammu,BS Pathania, said that they have constituted a 3-member medical board comprising a gynecologist, a pediatrician and an orthopedics to probe the matter and submit the report after which the next course of action will be decided.
Meanwhile, Dr Dara Singh, Medical Superintendent, SMGS, said that the baby is admitted in NICU ward of the hospital and proper treatment is being given to her.
