NEW DELHI, Oct 22: The activists of Youth All India Kashmiri Samaj (YAIKS) who had taken a rath yatra from Jammu to New Delhi demanding the rehabilitation of displaced Pandits leading an exiled life for last 25 years called on Union Home Minster Rajnath Singh at his residence here today.
The YAIKS activists who were cane charged in Union Capital for taking out a protest from Jantar Mantar to India Gate and arrested by Parliament Street Police heaved a sigh of relief after the Home Minister issued on spot directives to authorities to shift them to safe places.
The seven member YAIKS delegation held discussion with the Home Minster for 45 minutes and discussed the issue of the exiled Pandits with him in detail. They also submitted a charter of demands to him.
Mr Singh assured the delegation that the Union Government was committed to settle the problems of exiled Pandits and urged them to stay in Union Capital up to Monday so that more discussions will be held on the issue in presence of concerned Government officials.
The president of YAIKS, R K Bhat who led the delegation expressed concern over the apathy of the Government towards the plight of exiled Pandits saying that over the last seven years even the employment package of 6000 jobs announced by the former Prime Ministers Dr Manmohan Singh was not implemented till date and hurdles are being created at every now and then in its way.
Bhat said that in view of the assurance given by the Union Home Minister, his organization has decided to suspend the agitation till Monday.
The other members of the delegation included Sunil Koul, Ajay Safaya, Deepak Koul, Princy Dhar, Anita and Upasana.
