JAMMU, May 9: A peaceful protest was held in Sainik Colony Sector C near Sharma Resorts here today in which a large number of people including women participated.
The protesters were demanding permanent closure of the wine shop which has been opened in the area.

Addressing protesters Th. Jai Singh expressed his concern over the decision of opening the wine shop in the Colony. He said they are protesting against the opening of the wine shop for three days and the owner of the shop has not adopted the norms which have been made by the Excise Department as he has not taken any NOC from society for opening of the shop.
Th. Jai Singh also said that the area where the shop is situated is a residential area and many prominent persons live there. He also expressed that a mosque is situated at 200 metres from the shop and there is a school also in that area. The opening of the wine shop will create a public nuisance in the colony.
Th. Jai Singh also alleged that the owner of the shop has violated the norms three times but no action has been taken against him. Raman Bhalla while addressing the protesters warned the Government for creating a nuisance in the area by opening the wine shop. He said that his Party stands with the people of the colony and they will protest against it till it is permanently closed down.
Many prominent personalities were present on this occasion. They were Vikram Malhotra, Adv Hardev Singh, Master Anand Khajuria, S S Laadi, Capt (retd) Chuni Lal, Capt (retd) Didar Singh, Narinder Singh, Prabha Slathia, Arun Singh, Mohinder Singh Adv Rahul Singh Balbir Charak, Arjun Singh, Major Harnam Singh, Bhisham Singh Raju, Ch. Kaku Gujjar and Ch. Fazal.
Meanwhile the villagers of Chak Ram Singh, Govindsar Kathua held a protest demonstration in the area against the opening of wine shop. The men, women and children participated in the protest and locked the shutter of the wine shop and also disrupted the traffic on the link road. They warned to intensify agitation in case the wine shop was not closed.
