SRINAGAR, Mar 12: Parts of old city areas of Srinagar today observed shut down against the arrest of a shopkeeper by police on charge of stone pelting.
A complete shut down was observed in Nowhatta, Gojwara, Saraf Kadal, Rajouri Kadal and adjoining areas around against arrest of a shopkeeper Asif Qazi.
While shops and other business establishments remained closed in these areas, traffic movement was also affected as people staged protests against police. The traders sat on the main road blocking the traffic movement.
The traders’ body in the area demanded immediate release of Qazi. Police says Qazi was wanted in connection with stone-pelting cases.
