JAMMU, May 1: Division Bench of the High Court comprising Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Rajnesh Oswal has directed the Government to initiate immediate steps to ensure food and all facilities to the survivors of natural calamity which hit village Saddal in Udhampur district some years back.
The direction has been issued in a petition filed by the inhabitants of village Saddal through Advocate Deepika Mahajan.
After hearing Advocate Deepika Mahajan through video conference, the DB observed, “it has been submitted by counsel for the petitioners that survivors of village Saddal are in a dire condition without any source of income and food”, adding “it has been brought to our notice that Deputy Commissioner Udhampur has created a garbage dumping site about 150 feet from the camp resulting in foul stink, mosquitoes and flies where these people have been located resulting in pathetic condition”.
Accordingly, DB issued notice to the respondents with the direction to the Additional Advocate General Amit Gupta to seek instructions that immediate steps are taken to ensure food and all facilities to these survivors of natural calamity.
“Let a copy of this application be also furnished to M K Sharma, Member Secretary of State Legal Services Authority and Sandeep Kour, Secretary District Legal Services Authority Udhampur to ensure that these people are given immediate assistance”, the DB further ordered.
