PSC becomes defunct

JAMMU, Nov 18: The Public Service Commission (PSC), a constitutional body authorized with selections of Gazetted officers including taking Civil Services examinations, has been rendered defunct completely with the retirement of lone member KB Jandial.
The State Government at the fag end of its tenure had appointed Khurshid Ganaie, a senior IAS officer and Financial Commissioner (Industries and Commerce) as Chairman of the PSC for five years term in place of SL Bhat, who had retired in September and six new members.
However, Governor NN Vohra had returned the file to the Government on the ground that Vigilance Organisation clearance, integrity certificate, APRs etc of some of the members had not been incorporated along with the file.
Official sources said the file has not been send again to the Raj Bhawan so far.
As Chairman and all members of the PSC have retired, the body has been rendered defunct.
Sources said the Raj Bhawan would take next step only when the Government send the file again to the Governor.
