JAMMU, June 5: BJP State spokesperson Prof. Virender Gupta expressed deep anguish on the report about the functioning of State Public Service Commission, wherein it was alleged that PSC lacks transparency and is hiding the information about its internal administration and about the matters concerning conduct of competitive examinations and the selection against the posts in Gazetted cadre.
In a statement issued here today he said that it is a matter of great concern that candidates belonging to Jammu region are getting minor representation in the matter of selection against the posts of assistant professors in various disciplines, including the medical profession and against other Gazetted rank posts. The number of selected candidates from Jammu region for all the posts against which the selections has been made in the near past is less than 20 percent.
Prof. Virender said that a great resentment is brewing among the educated youth, which may result into a big agitation similar to that which Jammu witnessed in 1967, 1978 and 2008. He called upon the political class and public in general to support the cause of the youth.
The spokesperson said that the remedy to address the grievances of the people of Jammu in the matter of their selections through State PSC lies either in the bifurcation of PSC, i.e. there be a separate PSC for posts in Jammu province and that separate PSC for Kashmir Province or the candidates of Jammu province be selected against the posts lying vacant in Jammu Province and candidates from Valley against the posts in Kashmir province. He added that State level posts be equally divided between Jammu and Kashmir provinces.
Prof. Virender also added that to address the grievances of the Jammu region in the matter of admission to professional colleges/Institutes, the recommendations of Singhal Committee be implemented that recommended admission of the candidates to the colleges/institution existing in their respective province as is the case for the admission in the Jammu University and Kashmir University and State Polytechnics.
