PSLV C34 blasts off, to inject a record 20 satellites

SRIHARIKOTA: Rising majestically Indian worhorse launcher, PSLV C34 roared into the skies at the appointed hour today on a major task of injecting 20  satellites including the prime spacecraft Cartosat-2 from the second launch pad at the Satish Dhawan spaceport here.
The workhorse launch vehicle of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) blasted off for an epoch making journey in one of the most tricky and complex missions in which 20 satellites would be ejected, including the primary Cartosat-2 series. With a lift off weight of 3220 tonne and a height of 44.4 metres, PSLV-C34 has a total payload weight of 1288 kg including the727.5 kg cartosat-2 for earth observation. The 19 co passengerstogether weigh about 560 kg at liftoff. The satellites would be injected into a 505 Km sun synchronous orbit.
It was the 14th flight of PSLV in XL configuration with the use of six solid strapon motors.
The copassenger satellites were from the United States, Canada, Germany and Indonesia beses two satellites of Satyabama University of Chennai and college of engineering Pune. (AGENCIES)
