PSO of ex-PDP MLC held for grabbing forest land

JAMMU, May 16: Jammu East Police and Forest Department today jointly saved 40 kanal of forest land in Upper Sunjwan area and arrested PSO of former PDP MLC Nizam-ud-Din Khatana.
Police spokesman said that Range Officer Bahu lodged a written report in Police Station Trikuta Nagar mentioning that one Liaquat Ali, son of Mohd Ali of Firdosabad Sunjwan (PSO of former PDP MLC) and others have encroached upon the forest land in Compartment No.5 Sunjwan by raising tin shed and jhuggies.
Accordingly, a case under Section 447-A/379/RPC and 6/39 Forest Act was registered and a police team headed by SDPO East S S Sambyal along with SHO Police Station Trikuta Nagar Chanchal Singh and SHO Channi Himmat Police Anuroop Sharma under the supervision of SSP Jammu Rajeshwar Singh reached the spot.
Forest Department team led by Ajeet Chander, Range Officer Bahu with other forest officials accompanied the police team. During spot visit, it was established that Liaquat Ali has grabbed about 40 kanal of forest land in Upper Sunjwan by making bush fencing around the land.
The forest team with the assistance and under protection of police team removed the illegally installed structures and seized tin sheets etc. After completion of legal formalities the police team arrested the main land grabber Liaquat Ali. The timely action of Jammu East Police and Forest Department saved about 40 kanal of prime forest land valuing crores of rupees from the clutches of land grabbers.
“Investigation of the case is going on and involvement of other associates of the accused may also surface in the investigation”, police spokesman said.
