Public infra priority; no compromise on quality, timeline of projects: Veeri

JAMMU, Apr 5: Minister for Public Works & Parliamentary Affairs, Abdul Rehman Veeri has said that bringing transparency, accountability in the working of Public Works Department would remain priority of the Government.
He said road communication plays pivotal role in socio economic transformation of the society adding that strenuous efforts would be made to develop and modernize the public infrastructure in the State.
The Minister convened an introductory meeting of the higher ups of Public Works Department and received appraisal about the working of the department.
Minister of State for R&B, Sunil Kumar Sharma was also present in the meeting.
Commissioner Secretary R&B, Rohit Kansal, Chief Engineers of various wings, MD JKPCC and other senior officers of the Department also attended the meeting.
The Minister underscored the need for building quality time bound infrastructure in the State. He directed that there should be no compromise in quality of work and every officer and official of the department would be made accountable for achieving the targets under the sector well in time.
Mr. Veeri stressed on the importance of development of road infrastructure especially in hilly and rural areas and outlined specific deliverables on short, medium and long term basis for the department. He also directed time bound completion of under execution projects for the benefit of the people and for judicious use of state exchequer while executing different projects.
Highlighting the importance of roads and buildings in overall development of the State, Mr. Veeri said that Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti has a vision for the sector and that she would make all efforts to take this sector to new heights .
The Minister said people have lot of expectations from the Government and it is the responsibility of the Government functionaries to come out on these expectations.
