Punjab, Haryana outplay rivals in Santosh Trophy

JAMMU, Feb 9: Punjab and Haryana defeated their respective rivals in the ongoing 70th National Football Championship Santosh Trophy North Zone, being organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Football Association and J&K State Sports Council, under the auspices of All India Football Federation at GGM Science College Football ground, here.
In the first match played today, Punjab defeated Uttarakhand by three goals to nil (3-0). The first goal was scored by Pawan Kumar Tiwari in 17th minute, while the second goal was pelted by Ajay Singh in 48th minute and the third goal was again netted by Pawan Kumar Tiwari in 52nd minute. Yellow card was shown to Rajinder Singh Gora of Uttarakhand in 48th minute for foul play.
In another match played today, Haryana defeated Himachal Pradesh by a solitary goal and the goal scorer was Arvind, who netted it in 48th minute of the match. The yellow card was shown to Amit Bhat and Sunil Kumar of Himachal Pradesh in 37th and 81st minutes respectively, while Naveen Gulia of Haryana was shown yellow card in 35th minute.
Rakesh Sharma, IG BSF was the chief guest in today’s proceedings, while SS Wazir, retired ADGP and Iftkar Lone were also present on the occasion.
In tomorrow’s fixture, Chandigarh will meet Uttar Pradesh at 10 am, while J&K will take on Delhi at 2 pm.
