Punjab outplays J&K by 8 wkts in Vijay Hazare

JAMMU, Mar 3: Formidable Punjab outplayed Jammu and Kashmir by 8 wickets in an easy contest of Vijay Hazare One-Day Tournament at Jamia Millia Cricket Ground, here today.
Earlier, batting first, J&K lost three wickets including openers Adil Reshi (1), Manish Dogra (3) and Shubam Khajuria (3) for just 7 runs in 5.5 overs. However skipper Parvez Rasool and his deputy Ian Dev Singh made a partnership of 85 runs to consolidate the position and take the score to 92 runs before Rasool was caught by Taruwar Kohli after the bowling of Harbhajan Singh at his individual score of 47 runs off 57 balls, studded with 6 boundaries. Ian scored sedate 50 runs off 77 balls with the help of 2 fours and a six. Hardeep Singh, Samiullah Beigh and Ramdayal contributed 31, 24 and 16 runs to the total. For Punjab, Manpreet Goni and skipper Harbhajan Singh scalped 3 wickets each, while Sidharth Kaul took 2 wickets.
In reply, Punjab chased the target easily in 37 overs by losing 2 wickets, thus won the match by 8 wickets. Manan Vohra scored magnificent 89 runs off 93 balls, studded with 9 fours, while Mandeep Singh and Yuvraj Singh remained unbeaten on 76 and 28 runs respectively. For J&K, Parvez Rasool and Ramdayal claimed one wicket each.
