JAMMU, Jan 31: Two days Punjab State Youth Festival organized by Department of Youth Services, Government of Punjab concluded today at the campus of Chandigarh University Gharuan with power packed performances by the youth of Punjab.
More than 23000 thousand students participated in the festival, which took part in 32 categories of competitions including folk dances, tribal dances, folk music, western dances, theater, literary and fine art.
Member Parliament Rajya Sabha and veteran actor Raj Babbar presided over the closing ceremony along with Minister for Sports ,Youth Affairs and NRI Affairs Government of Punjab, Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi, MLA Bassi Pathana, Gurpeet Singh GP, Secretary Tourism, Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs, Hussan Lal, Special Secretary and Director, Department of Youth Affairs, Sanjay Poppali and Chancellor Chandigarh University, Satnam Singh Sandhu.
Noted Punjabi singer Jasber Jassi and writer and anchor Nirmal Singh Jora were honored with Punjab Youth Icon Awards.
Amongst the winners, team from Punjabi University Patiala and Chandigarh University Gharuan won the folk dance (boys) while team from Punjab University Chandigarh bagged second position. The energetic performance of Punjabi University Patiala helps them in winning the Bhangra competition while team from GNDU Amritsar won second position. In the Theater category of events, Host team of Chandigarh University bag first position in one act play while the team from Punjab University Chandigarh won second position. The skit competition was won by GNDU Amritsar while the mimicry event was won by LPU Phagwara. In the classical dance category team Punjabi university Patiala won first position while the classical instrument music competition winner was GNDU Amritsar.
The innovative projects including Smart Gloves, Multi Utility Smart Umbrella and Smart Gas Protection System developed by youth of Punjab were the major attraction during the two-day Punjab State Youth Festival.
On the concluding day of the festival, the campus of Chandigarh University witnessed live performances by Bollywood playback singer Niti Mohan and Punjabi singers Jordan Sandhu, Nooran Sisters, Ninja, Bani Sandhu and Stylish Singh.
