Punjab thrashes CSK by 6 wickets

Dharamsala, May 17:

Kings XI Punjab skipper Adam Gilchrist led from the front with some scintillating hitting as the home side trounced Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by six wickets at the HPCA stadium here this evening.
Chasing a modest 121 to win, the Punjab outfit cruised to the target with 21 balls to spare.
Gilchrist, back at the helm of KXIP after recovering from his hamstring injury, was in majestic touch and timing the ball as if he had never taken a break.
The southpaw scored a flawless unbeaten half-century to guide his team to a very important win. Gilchrist’s 46-ball 64 was studded with nine boundaries and 2 sixes.
Earlier, Kings XI Punjab produced a stunning bowling display to restrict Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to a paltry 120/7.
The visitors got off to an inauspicious start as they lost three wickets in quick succession against some discipline bowling from the Kings XI Punjab bowlers.
Punjab pacer Praveen Kumar dismissed CSK openers Murali Vijay and Mike Hussey cheaply to put the home side in the driver’s seat.
Praveen got ample support from the other end as all-rounder Azhar Mahmood struck to give Chennai third blow when he removed Suresh Raina to leave the visitors tottering at 42/3 in 7.4 overs. (UNI)
