RAJOURI, Oct 12: Dhangri Panchayat thrashed Doongi to advance in the Under-16 boys basketball event of the Inter-Panchayat Tournament of Rajouri, Nowshera, Sunderbani and Kalakote Blocks, being organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, under a Centrally Sponsored Scheme ‘Panchayat Yuva Krida Aur Khel Abhiyan (PYKKA)’, here.
Earlier, the 2-day tournament was inaugurated by Mohd Ayaz Khan, District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Rajouri in a simple function attended among others by the Zonal Physical Education Officers Bharat Bhushan, Ashok Kumar Gandotra and Sikander Parvaiz Khan.
Meanwhile, in other basketball matches played today, Mubarak Pura Panchayat drubbed Muradpur, while Sankari got better of Bathuni to move into the next round.
In volleyball Under-16 boys, Chingas prevailed upon Agrati, Dhangri beat Mubarak Pura and Doongi outplayed Chowdhary Nar-Panchayat to advance in the tournament, while in handball Under-16 boys, Sassalkote Panchayat trounced Bathuni, Sawani beat Potha and Muradpur prevailed upon Doongi.
In badminton Under-16 girls, Palam Panchayat defeated Agrati South Panchayat in the final to lift the title.
Meanwhile, the sports disciplines of volleyball, kho-kho, kabaddi, athletics and badminton under PYKKA Scheme were inaugurated by Mohd Sadiq, Deputy CEO Mendhar and Abdul Razaq Qureshi, Vice Principal GHSS Boys Mendhar at Government Boys Higher Secondary School Mendhar, today.
The matches were officiated by Gulzar Ahmed, Manjit Singh Anand, Balwinder Singh, Surinder Singh, Mohd Farooq, Rajinder Kumar, Naresh Kumar, Koushal Kumar, Mir Alam, Mohd Arif Mir, Mohd Waseem, Majid Khan, Abrar Khan, Skinder Azam, Mushtaq Ahmed, Manzoor Mir, Tariq Shah, Hanief Mir and Suresh Bali.
