Queen and Knight wins champions trophy in Chess Premier League

JAMMU, Dec 10: Queen and Knight team owned by DySP Raj Kumar won the champions trophy and cash prize of Rs 25000 in the Chess Premier League which concluded here today.
The runner-up trophy and cash prize of Rs15000 went to White Knights owned by Rakesh Gupta, while second runner-up trophy and cash prize of Rs 10000 went to Trikuta Wizards owned by Tarunveer Singh Bijral. Each board prize winner was awarded Rs 5000 each. Arushi Kotwal won the first board prize, while the second board prize went to Maxim Singh, third board prize to Ritish Pathania and fourth board prize was clamied by Ravi Sharma.
Nine teams comprising a total of 63 players from different districts of J&K participated in this event. Players from far flung areas such as Kupwara district also participated in this event. Blind player Suresh Chopra also participated in the league.
A total of 224 requests were received by the organizers for this league which was initially planned for only 8 teams and 40 players but keeping in view the repeated requests and enthusiasm of players rules were relaxed for this league and most possible youngsters were allowed to play in this first ever league.
RK Gupta, a renowned CA was the chief guest on the occasion, who along with guests of honour Taranjeet Singh Tony and Dr AS Bhatia distributed the prizes among the winners.
Gupta said that such activities channelize youth energy towards positive direction and help in making good and intelligent citizens.
Atul Kumar Gupta, President AJKCA said that the Association has already organized 11 national level events including last year’s historic South Asian event and will continue to work for giving best possible platform to J&K youth.
All the matches were officiated by Anil Kotwal and Bindu Pathania under the overall supervision of Atul Kumar Gupta, President All J&K Chess Association. Kuljeet Singh Jamwal was the chief organizer of this league.
The teams participated in the league were Chess Champs owned by Taranvir Singh Gujral, Chess Tigers owned by Kuljeet Singh Jamwal, Jammu Chess Legends owned by Baldev Raj, Kings and Queens owned by Dr AS Bhatia, Queen and Knight owned by Raj Kumar, Black and White owned by Vikas Nanda, White Knights owned by Atul Kumar Gupta and Rakesh Kumar Gupta, Trikuta Wizards owned by Tarunveer Singh Bijral and Ridhima Chess owned by Ajay Sharma.
