JAMMU, Sept 28: On the eleventh day of “Display Your Talent” 2014-15, the Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu organized the Quiz, On Spot Essay Writing and Short Story Competitions.
In Quiz Competition, the team consisting of Ankit Antaal, Nikesh Sharma and Vicky Kumar from the MBS College of Engineering and Technology, Jammu, adjudged as 1st and lifted the Dr Surinder Sharma Memorial Trophy in Quiz Competition whereas the team from Department of Geography, University of Jammu, consisting of Tsering, Satvinder Kaur and Anshul Gupta and the team consisting of Anuj Bandral, Yadav Kashyap and Rekha Chauhan from The School of Bio-Technology, University of Jammu, got the 2nd and 3rd place, respectively.
Twenty-six teams from PG Department of University and its affiliated colleges participated in Quiz (Prelims) out of which five teams qualified for the Final Round. The other two teams which qualified for final are Department of Economics, University of Jammu and Government MAM College, Jammu.
Dr Anil Gupta from the Business School, University of Jammu, acted as the Quiz Master for Quiz (Prelims) and Quiz Final.
Rajiv Bhagat acted as scorer whereas Rahul Sharma, as time keeper.
The Essay Writing and Short Story Writing Competitions were conducted by the Department of Students Welfare at Examination Hall “D” at University of Jammu.
The topics for On the Spot Essay Writing Contest were “India as emerging in Economic Power-Challenges and Opportunities”, “E-Services” and “Women Empowerment”.
The participants were required to write an essay comprising 2000 to 3000 words in English or Hindi languages within the given time of 60 minutes.
Dr Rajwant Kour, Teacher In-charge for the Essay Writing competition and Dr Anju Thapa, Teacher In-charge for the Short Story Writing Competition made the participants conversant with the Rules and Regulations for their event and supervised the competition.
The topics for the Short Story Writing contest were “Flood”, “My Pain”, and “Garden”. The participants were required to write a Short Story comprising 1500 words, on the given topic in English, Hindi, Dogri, Urdu and Punjabi within the given time of 90 minutes.
Sixty-five students from PG Departments of the University and its affiliated colleges participated in both the events.
Prof Pankaj K Srivastava, Dean, Students Welfare and Prof Parmeshwari Sharma, Chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee, distributed the certificates amongst the participants.
Among others, Dr Sanjay Sharma, members Campus Cultural Committee, Ifra Kak, Cultural Officer, Sumeet Sharma, Drama Instructor, Rahul Sharma, Secretary, Students Cultural Council, members of Students Cultural Council Scholars and students were present.
The result of the Essay Writing and Short Story Writing competitions shall be declared after the evaluation of the scripts and prizes will be given on October 1, 2014 in Prize Distribution Ceremony.
