Rachita Jain, Arpna Rajput, Rushi Verma clinch top three ranks in Flower Management

JAMMU, Sept 21: “Display Your Talent”, commenced today with fanfare at University of Jammu.
“Display Your Talent” is an annual feature of the Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu in which students from the affiliated degree colleges and university departments participate in 33 different competitions of music, dance, literary, fine-arts and theatrical activities.
At the inaugural function, Prof RD Sharma, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu was the chief guest and Padmashree Balwant Thakur, Regional Director ICCR J&K was the guest of honour.
Vice Chancellor advised the students to focus on quality more than the quantity and to adopt a vertical approach towards perfection. He emphasized that culture is much more than it is considered and thus be valued accordingly for the holistic development of the students.
Balwant Thakur shared his nostalgic experiences about ‘Display Your Talent’ as he was among those students in whose studentship, this event was initiated in the University of Jammu in the session 1982-83.
Prof Satnam Kour, Dean Students Welfare, in her welcome address wished good luck to the participants for the successful completion of this mega event.
Prof Arvind Jasrotia, Chairman Campus Culture Committee apprised the audience about the brief history of ‘Display Your Talent’, while Dr Anupama Vohra, Associate Dean Students Welfare presented the formal vote of thanks.
On the first day, Group Song Indian, Rangoli and Flower arrangement were conducted at three different venues.
In Group Song Indian, 12 teams participated in which Government College for Women Parade was declared first, Government College for Women Gandhi Nagar and Institute of Music and Fine Arts jointly secured second position. GDC Samba stood Third. Lal Bahadur Memorial College and MAM College got Certificates of Merit.
Balbeer Chand Beera, Surinder Manhas and Jeevan Sharma were the judges for the event and Dr. Shallu Sehgal was the Teacher Incharge for the event.
In Rangoli, there were 70 participants. Mohinder Kumar of GGM Science College stood first, Ranju Kumari from IMFA and Tammana Rajput from GDC Hiranagar stood second and third respectively. Certificates of Merit were given to Neha Luna from GCW Parade, Neelakshi Sharma from Department of Psychology, Sheetal Sharma from Department of Library and Information Sciences and Priya Sharma from GDC Akhnoor.
Jagpal Singh Bandral, Manoj Chopra and Richa Gupta were the judges and Dr Samridhi Arora was the Teacher Incharge for the event.
In all, 29 students participated in Flower Arrangement event. Rachita Jain from the Department of Home Science, Arpna Rajput from GCET, Rushi Verma from KC Law College stood first, second and third respectively. Certificate of Merit was awarded to Vidushi Mahajan from Department of Psychology.
Prof RN Gohil and Rakesh Kumar Sharma were the judges and Prof Shallu Sharma was the Teacher In-Charge for the event.
The events were coordinated by Dr AR Manhas, Assistant Dean SW, Dr Parmil Kumar, Assistant Dean SW, Ifra Kak, Cultural Officer and Sumeet Sharma, Drama Instructor.
The programme was conducted by Hemant Magotra, Secretary Students Cultural Council.
The events were witnessed by the members of Campus Cultural Committee, teachers, students, scholars of the University of Jammu and prominent members of the civil society.
