SRINAGAR, May 18: Vice Chairman of the State Advisory Board for Development of Farmers (Kissans), Radhay Sham Sharma took the review of the issues of the farmers in the provincial level board meeting held here today.
A threadbare discussion was held in the meeting regarding the points discussed and decisions taken in the 2nd Advisory Board meting held on April 19 at Jammu under the chairmanship of Chief Minister. Mr Sharma said that in last one year several awareness camps and meetings of the board were held in Kashmir and Jammu regions and in coming months Leh and Kargil districts will also be covered. He said the Board intends to hold such meetings at block level. The vice chairman also announced establishment of a grievances cell headed by his PRO to look into the problems of farmers.
The members raised several issues pertaining to the farmers and sought early redressal. They said due to recent hail storms the crop of farmers has been badly affected. They should be provided compensation. The members also questioned the slow pace of various departments in implementing suggestions put forth by the members of the Board regarding establishment of seed banks, Vermi compost pits, dairy units, issuing Kissan Credit cards, solid health cards, high quality spawn and tissue culture, apiculture and cultivation of proper seeds as per topography of the area.
