Rag picker knocked to death by car

JAMMU, Dec 24: A rag picker was knocked to death by a car in Talab Tillo area of city outskirts, late last night.
According to a police official, the deceased was identified as Akhilesh Prasad (30) son of Chandrika Prasad, resident of Gopal Ganj (Uttar Pradesh). He said the man along with ‘rehri’ was walking on the road when a speeding Bolero car bearing registration number JK02BL-3434 hit him and then turned turtle after crashing with the divider of the road.
“In the mishap, the rag picker received serious injuries. He was immediately rushed to GMC Jammu for treatment but doctors there declared him as brought dead,” the official said, adding the vehicle was seized by the Talab Tillo police which had started investigation after registration of case. However, the accused driver and other occupants of the vehicle managed to flee from the spot, he further added.
