JAMMU, Feb 19: The Vice-Chancellor of Jammu University, Prof. Umesh Rai, laid the foundation for the installation of High Mast HID Lights at the University of Jammu’s Cricket Stadium. This initiative, with a budget of Rs 305 lakhs, is part of a larger effort to enhance the university’s sports infrastructure. The addition of these lights will allow for day-night cricket matches and longer training sessions, further positioning the university as a hub for sports excellence.
The Cricket Stadium, already the only BCCI-recognized ground in Jammu and Kashmir, has hosted numerous national-level tournaments, including Under-23 matches. With endorsements from former Indian cricketer Abey Kuruvilla, it is gaining a reputation as one of the top venues for cricket in the region.
Additionally, Prof. Rai inspected the construction of a state-of-the-art 10-metre shooting range, which is expected to be completed by the end of the year, further enhancing the university’s sports offerings. The project aims to be completed within six months, positioning the stadium as a premier venue for national and inter-university tournaments.
The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Prof. Meena Sharma, Dr. Daud Iqbal Baba, and other key officials, all emphasizing the significance of this development in elevating sports at Jammu University to regional and national levels.
