Rail service resumes in Kashmir

SRINAGAR : Rail service in the Kashmir valley resumed this morning after remaining suspended yesterday due to general strike, called by hardline Hurriyat Conference (HC) against the killing of three Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militants in an encounter on November 23 in south Kashmir.
Though some trains operated in the morning, as a precautionary measure all train runs from Srinagar-Badgam and Baramulla in north Kashmir besides Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region were cancelled yesterday.
Since major damage was caused to railway property in the past, it was decided to suspend the rail service, a railway official said adding though some trains operated in the morning.
However, he said, despite fog, trains left different stations as per schedule. But the speed of the trains was slow to avoid any accident due to fog, he said adding the arrival would be slightly delayed. (UNI)
