JAMMU, Dec 30: In order to maintain a constant vigil on railway track and track down the thieves snapping the OHE (Over Head Equipment) wire used for running the train on Udhampur -Katra track, the Railway Police has laid special Nakas on the track and also started joint patrolling with Railway Protection Force.
Admitting that some cases of OHE wire stealing were reported by Railways, SP Railways Katra, Ajay Mahajan said that Railway Police is on the job and it has intensified the joint patrolling along with RPF and also laid nakas at various places on the track to arrest the thieves and foil their bid.
He however disagreed that yesterday the OHE was stolen from the track and said that it developed some fault and melted while Shri Shakti train was returning from Katra to Udhampur.
However reliable sources said that 35 metres of contact wire used for running the train were stolen yesterday from the track at Km 74 between Udhampur and Katra hampering the train traffic on the track.
Sources said hundreds of meters of both Contact and Catenary wire were stolen since June 23 this year at different parts of the Udhampur -Katra track and this way the Railway Electrification Organisation has been put to a heavy loss as the wire is very costly in the market.
However the SP Railways said that in one theft case they have also registered a FIR and Railway Police was investigating the same. He said that no report was made by any body with Railway police regarding other theft cases on the basis of which the report can be framed.
However Railway Police has intensified vigil and laid ambushes to catch the culprits red handed, he added.
