Samba, Feb 4: Rain washed away the tall claims of the Sports Council over providing first class sports infrastructure at District level as the lone newly constructed Indoor Sports hall in the Samba, just year ago was flooded with rainwater.
Built at an estimated cost of Rs 4.5 crores, the Sports Complex was thrown open for sports activities just 15 months ago to promote indoor games, now it has been flooded with rainwater consequently the players were facing a lot of problems. The rainwater dripping from the roof also damaged sports equipment.
Local badminton player Mandeep Samyal said that the Government had spent crores to build this Sports hall but due to negligence on part of the Council’s engineering wing, they took possession of the building which was constructed with faulty materials. “Many times, the players registered with Sports Hall themselves drain the rainwater from the hall, whenever the rain occurs,” he alleged.
Another player, Manav Singh said that many times, they have informed the officials of the Council regarding problems but they did nothing concrete to control dripping rainwater from the roof.
Sports Council Manager Indoor Hall, Bajinder Paul Singh said that the wind blowing with rain had damaged the roof of the hall and he informed the higher ups regarding the leakage and hoped that the repaired work would be carried out soon.
