JAMMU, Mar 7: Rain played spoilsport as it forced the organizers to stop the match between two formidable teams Simula Cricket Club and KC Sports Club when only one innings of the match was completed in the ongoing 1st State Level 50 Overs Cricket Tournament, being organized by Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council in collaboration with Country Cricket Academy at Gharota, near here.
The Tournament is being played in the memory of late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, former Chief Minister, under the supervision of Vikrant Sharma, Director Country Cricket Academy.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, Simula Cricket Club scored decent 248 runs in 40 overs by losing 8 wickets as the match was reduced to 40-overs a side because of inclement weather conditions. Satish Kumar scored magnificent 96 runs off 90 balls, studded with 8 fours and 2 sixes, while former Ranji Trophy players Shashi Kumar and Hardeep Singh contributed valuable 50 and unbeaten 33 runs respectively. Satish was in sublime touch and missed the century by a whisker as he was run out while running for a quick single. For KC Sports Club, Abhishant Bakshi took 3 wickets, Touqeer bagged 2, while Rajeev Jamwal, Vivek Sharma, Sahil Magotra and Bhanu share one wicket each.
After Simula Cricket Club’s innings, rain interrupted the match and the play was stopped.
According to Vivek Sharma, former Ranji Trophy player and organizing secretary of the tournament, the match will be resumed from the stage it was left on any other date and time as per the will of the organizers.
In tomorrow’s fixture, Media XI will take on Shastri Cricket Club at 9 am.
