Rains in Valley, temp dips

Srinagar, Apr 19: Temperature in Kashmir declined by several notches as light rains lashed Valley today even as dry weather has been predicted for Wednesday.
As already predicted by Meteorological Department, the rains started in the afternoon and continued for nearly two hours. A MeT official, however, said that the weather is expected to remain dry tomorrow but added that there is a forecast for more rains from April 21 to April 23.
The fresh downpour in Valley resulted in decline of the temperature. The MeT official said the maximum temperature in Srinagar was recorded 16.5 degree Celsius against the previous 20.4 while the minimum temperature settled at 8.7 degree Celsius.
Qazigund, the gateway of Kashmir valley, recorded 17.0 degree Celsius maximum temperature while minimum temperature settled at 7.4 degree Celsius.
Pahalgam, which serves as Base Camp for annual Amarnath Ji pilgrimage, recorded 12.7 degree Celsius during day and night temperature settled at 5.1 degree Celsius. The MeT official said maximum temperature in Gulmarg, a star skiing destination, recorded 8.0 degree Celsius while the night temperature settled at 3.5 degree Celsius.
Kokernag in South Kashmir recorded 16.3 degree Celsius maximum temperature and 8.4 degree Celsius minimum temperature. The day temperature in Kupwara settled at 15.9 degree Celsius while the minimum temperature remained 8.6 degree Celsius.
Leh, which is also called cold desert, recorded a 16.1 degree Celsius maximum temperature and the neighbouring Kargil recorded 16.9 degree Celsius maximum temperature.
